Best Skincare Hacks for Keeping Skin Glow-y and Healthy all Summer Long
New York summer is here and its time to take your hand fans out and get on top of your skincare routine. I believe in simplifying your skincare routine in the summer — its important to take the time to figure out what will make your skin glow!
Here are a round up of tips I have learned over the years to keep my skin healthy and glow-y during the summer. Scroll to bottom for my skincare recommendations!
Tip #1 - Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen
Sunscreen is the product we loathed growing up but now is our savior in our skincare routine—To survive the summer heat having a reliable sunscreen in your beauty bag is super important. Having a hydrating mist with SPF in your purse is a great hack to cool down but also to reapply your sunscreen easily! I like to keep the Supergoop!(Re) Setting Refreshing Mist SPF 40 travel size on me at all times. It's important to find sunscreens with clean ingredients to protect our skin from harmful free radicals, UV rays, and prevent aging.
Tip #2 - Staying Hydrated & Moisturized
Hydration, in the summer is essential for your skin and body, not only does it help you avoid dehydration but is easy to add to your already existing routine. If I'm feeling like I need an extra boost I lean into drinking coconut water, which helps to replenish your bodies electrolytes and keep you going on a hot day. It is just as important to find a light weight hydrating moisturizer that will help keep your skin glowing but also not feel like it is going to melt off your face! Recently, I have been using the COSRX Snail Mucin All in One Moisturizer, it gives you that glow without the heavy feeling of a thick lather.
Tip #3 - Skin like Glass
Ditch your thick foundation and use Skin Tints or CC Creams in the summer time. Skin Tints allow you to create buildable coverage but give you the look of natural skin without the feeling of a heavy foundation. Most Skin Tints will also have skin care benefits giving you a two for one deal! I prefer the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint year round, it has an SPF of 40 and skincare ingredients like Squalane, Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid.
Tip #4 - Exfoliating Once or Twice a Week
Exfoliation is crucial to remove dead skin from our body and keep it healthy and glowing. For the body I recommend dry brushing before showering and using exfoliation gloves in the shower —dry brushing will help get your lymphatic system moving while the exfoliation gloves leave your skin glowing post shower. On the face you can either you use a physical or a chemical exfoliant depending on the outcome you are looking for. I usually go for a chemical exfoliant like the Paula's Choice BHA Toner. It is super important to not forget to apply sunscreen after toning!
Tip #5 - Double Cleansing
After a long day of wearing sunscreen we need to double cleanse! Double cleansing is the process of washing your face twice to get ride of unwanted — clog poring impurities off of your face. The first wash is with an oil or cleansing balm then you follow that first cleanse up with a gentle cleanser of your choice. Double cleansing has personally changed my skin in a such a positive way!
